Pros:
>The animation itself was pretty good-- the timing of the movements felt natural and were not sluggish.
>The characters were nicely articulated .
>The textures were a nice touch and helped to establish a sort of gritty feeling, though they may have increased the file size of your movie.
> I can really tell that you put a lot of time and effort into making this-- it wasn't something that was churned out in about fifteen minutes.

Cons:
> Quality is an obvious one. A lot of detail was lost in this version of your animation. The YouTube video is definitely better in terms of quality, but this version is definitely lacking.
> Maybe this is just personal taste, but I feel like you overused gradients a bit. The black+[insert color] gradients don't really do much to add form or interest to the areas you've applied them to, and they remind me of the Flash animations that were common in the late 90s.
> The music looped awkwardly in one spot. Try to keep your volumes consistent to make your loop point more subtle.
> The movie was somewhat repetitive in some areas. the scene where the clown was running around in his cell seemed especially overused.

Overall, you've got a pretty good first submission, though there are quite a few areas in which it could be improved. Keep working on adding some more variety and optimizing your animation to mazimize quality, and I think you've got a lot of potential.

PS. It would be best to avoid calling your reviewers "retarded," telling them to "suck a cock," or saying "fuck you" to people who point out flaws in your animation. It is somewhat juvenile and makes you look like you can't take a critique.

FiveToes responds:

hey thanks, but i shant tone down my scornfull responses to haters, if you have a valid criticism, like you do , i appriciate it, and will work on it. keen eye by the way for catching that sound loop, the file wasnt long enough.

Great animation

Great animation; lots of interesting use of camera angles and dynamic poses. It makes me really want to get off my lazy ass and start animating.

The context is pretty weak, though. I wish that you had included some sort of story behind how these two met and why they're fighting. While your animation skills are definitely strong enough to garner high scores on their own, some context and story would reinforce your skills, making this a great flash animation.

Great work; I'm looking forward to seeing more of your stuff in the future. (And aim for the front page!! Your skills are strong enough to make it there.)

SunnyGOES responds:

Originally it had a little story, but doing fullbody animation that goes on for 4 minutes with full Bg's and effects... Isn't realistic to finish within time :(

...Really?

Wow, you've stooped down to making hate-flashes? Honestly bud, Turd of the Week isn't something to be proud of... if anything, 3 turds of the week means your trophies are in the negative numbers, if that makes any sense.

Anyway, critique time.
At least now, you've got one character that doesn't look completely flat, meaning he has SOME 3D form going on. BUT. This was only achieved because you used photos from the web. This doesn't improve your character by much, though, because he(?) looks totally lifeless and doesn't move AT ALL. Try using some frame-by-frame animation to make your characters look more believable next time.

Your story writing is SERIOUSLY lacking. None of this really entertained me, aside from the "cool" aura that was kind of amusing. The way your characters interact with each other, however, really needs work. Text dialogue is almost always a no-no, so try voice acting instead.

Overall, though, I think the one thing that will help you THE MOST... the GUARANTEED TO HELP YOUR FLASH ANIMATIONS IMPROVE TENFOLD.... THE HOLY GRAIL OF MAKING FLASH ANIMATIONS is....

...take an animation class.

SERIOUSLY. If they offer that kind of class at your school, sign up for it right away! If not, find out if your local community college has something similar and sign up that way! you will never improve if you rely solely on making flash tweens and posting these slideshow-like flashes on Newgrounds. Get some assistance from someone who really knows what they're doing, and take some extra steps to learn how to improve! If you just do this, maybe you'll start losing haters and start getting some actual fans... or at least people who approve of your work.

Great work!

That was hilarious! One doesn't normally see very many good stick figure animations, but this was great. ;D The animation was unexpectedly smooth, the music fit perfectly, and the ending was surprising and made me laugh.

One thing bothers me, though... I'm concerned about what happened to the second stick guy after he was launched into the air. xD

Pinecones36 responds:

I assume he will impact the pavement!

Not bad.

Nice work; I really like your artistic vision and the way you laid things out on the screen. The way you drew the girl and the boy were really great, and the colors were bold and pleasing to look at.

However, there are a few things upon which you could improve. Namely, the choppiness of the animation. I'm not talking about the tweens; those were great. But the animation where you've got the boy and the girl moving were far too slow-- I felt like I was watching a slideshow instead of an animation. I would suggest that you add more in-between frames to make the transitions between your keyframes more smooth and animated.

Other than that, this was pretty chill. Great work! :)

Xandroid responds:

Thx men. Someone else has already told me about that too. I'll definitly keep that in mind next time.

wtf? xD

The animation was great in most of the parts. It kept me hooked right up 'til the end, which I must say was... rather unexpected.

I don't really have much else to say about this animation, other than the Japanese really sucked. (I'm a native speaker.) It looked great visually, but the way it was written was totally disjointed and nonsensical. ;D At least I got a giggle or two out of it.

Not bad.

My first thought upon seeing this flash was "What? It's just a title screen? Talk about disappointing." But then I noticed the art and animation quality. It's very colorful and pleasing to look at, not to mention the run cycles are pretty good for the style this is in. I really like the way you delayed the run cycle on some of the characters, so they're not all running in sync. The way you bobbed the heads and tails as they run is also appealing.

Overall, while this lacks any kind of story whatsoever, it still entertained me. Nice work. :)

Ganton responds:

I might actually be making a game including this Title screen, keep your hopes up!
and hopefully the game itself will be fun!

Not bad

This isn't half bad-- you've got nice movement in the head and nice bounce on the antennae looking things and the tail; The legs look great, too. I also like the movement in the egg, but there's one major problem in the physics of this animation that prevent it from being believable. The body remains perfectly stationary, which makes the animation look kind of cheesy. To make it look more believable, try incorporating a more exaggerated up-and-down movement of the torso.

Otherwise, this is great. I love your drawing style as well. :)

Words can't express...

...how awesome this Flash movie is. Seriously, I've watched it probably a dozen and a half times over, and every time I'm amazed at how well this is animated... it never gets old. I've recommended this flash to a lot of my friends, plus my animation teacher from last semester, and everyone who has watched this has said the same thing.

Seriously a-fucking-mazing. ;D

Pretty weak.

It's just a motion pan over a giant bottle of coke while music plays in the background. ;/

Hardcore Animation nerd. :B If I post anything under 24fps, that's a sign I'm getting lazy.
